Even before Humphry Davy produced the first electrically charged artificial light, people have relied heavily on the security and power of natural sunlight. This changed in 1879 when Thomas Edison invented the first commercially used incandescent lamp. That is where lighting history began. Since then, advancements in science and technology have led to an age of artificial light that has illuminated the darkness and opened many avenues to a vast range of human activity.
In 1880, the Brush Electric Company working in Wabash, Indiana installed the first citywide complete lighting system powered solely by electricity. This demonstration fostered an explosion of commerce and economic growth never seen before. As the commercial and industrial world grew, there were significant advancements in technology leading way to Mercury Vapor, High Pressure Sodium (HPS) and other High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting systems. Unfortunately, usage of these fixtures is significantly reducing our natural energy resources.
Envirobrite is dedicated to designing, manufacturing and assembling energy efficient sustainable kits and luminaires, using our internationally recognized RiteFit retrofit kits, High Bay collections and CooLED LED product lines.
Lighting consumes up to 60% of commercial and industrial buildings energy sources. Corporations have realized the need to retrofit and enhance their lighting systems. Lighting is the first step in any facilities retrocommissioning project. Advancements in Florescent and LED lighting sources have given way to a significant drop in energy use, most of which use 30 – 70% less than the power used by older HID and HPS luminaires. Additional innovations in Daylight Harvesting, Motion Sensing and Wireless Energy Management Controls are cost effective approaches to reducing energy consumption, and also providing quick returns on investment.
