Do you know about all of the tax deductions and utility rebates available for businesses undergoing lighting retrofits?
“Retrofit” is not a new concept in the world of energy-efficient lighting but it sure seems to be the hottest buzz word in energy efficiency, and for good reason. Businesses across the world are revamping their lighting systems and saving millions of dollars as a result. Just in the restaurant industry; McDonald’s, Burger King, Red Robin, IHOP, Chili’s, Starbucks, and Applebee’s have all initiated or completed LED retrofit projects.
The opportunity to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption, save on power bills, and cut replacement & maintenance costs is up for grabs for anyone that can afford to front the initial investment.
However, that initial investment is not such a staggering figure, thanks to government incentives. Read on for an overview of some of the available options.

Envirobrite – a manufacturer of Lighting Retrofit Kits, Fluorescent Highbays, LED lighting fixtures, and Commodity fixtures is excited to announce the recent achievements of two more of our employees to Lighting Certified accreditation – Dominic Cerce and Aaron Wood. This brings the total to five Envirobrite employees certified as Lighting Certified: Mike Brennan, Jason Plourde and Josh Bond.
As with any major industry there exists some form of accreditation that allows an individual to strengthen his/her knowledge within their field. This knowledge provides an opportunity to maintain training on advancements and changes within a specified industry. Within the lighting trade the certification is respectively known as – Lighting Certified (LC).
The NCQLP developed their program to address multiple issues that include: safety, health, productivity, energy conservation and effectiveness, environmental concerns, governmental policy, lighting technology, and competent, knowledgeable lighting practice.
The NCQLP, a non-profit organization founded in 1991 developed their principles to serve and protect the well-being of the public through effective and efficient lighting practice. Through a peer-review process, the NCQLP establishes the education, experience and examination requirements for baseline certification across the lighting professions.
Qualifications for meeting LC certification require a minimum of six years experience in the lighting industry or a Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university and three years experience in a lighting related field. The LC credential is a multi-disciplinary qualification based on a statistically valid, peer-developed examination that tests the knowledge in the following areas:

This year, we expanded our market coverage in the Western U.S. and Canada, thanks to our new representative Benjamin Buchanan, president and owner of Time Lighting based out of Los Angeles. Benjamin has more than 10 years of experience in the lighting industry and is a pro at specifying, designing and selling to all sides of the business. His expertise is helping us decrease lead times and continue to help us light the way in price, customer service and quality!
Going Retro
Retrofit, that is. Envirobrite introduced the Dailite Advanced Troffer retrofit kit – an innovative, contemporary new product designed to improve your existing lighting fixtures’ efficiency levels. The easy-to-install retrofit kit is set directly on the grid, enhancing light levels along walls that can “open up” any room. Made of 100% sustainable aluminum, Dailite significantly reduces energy expenses and glare normally associated with two, three and four lamp T8/T12 fixtures. With Dailite, you can expect quality performance that will save you lots of green year after year!
Plugged into Safety
With our ongoing commitment to safe, reliable products, we rolled out Plug-n-Brite – an easy method for installing cords and sensor systems. Each of our three cord options is vibration-proof, corrosion-resistant and maintenance-free, and also protect against hazardous shocks and accidents.

Our manufacturing and assembly headquarters in Sanford, Florida receives an abundant amount of sunshine. The sun’s intensity drives up our energy costs by pushing our HVAC systems to work into overdrive. This past year, we sought to combat this cost by investing in some new energy saving technologies. | |
| First, we installed multiple large fans, made by the Big Ass Fan Company in our shipping and receiving facility. Although the creativity of the company’s name is a bit risqué, the product’s performance and efficiency are second to none. Big Ass Fans are designed to move the maximum amount of air with minimal energy consumption. The fan’s design uses ten blades operating at slow speeds to move large volumes of air. Moving at a low speed means less energy used for operation, translating into more energy savings. The difference was immediate as we recognized temperatures drop an average of 15 degrees. |

| That’s when we realized the other benefit… our Envirobrite® employees love the fans more than we love the reduced energy costs. Secondly, we treated each of our buildings with another energy efficient technology. Like our abundance of sunshine, we also receive over 50 inches of rain each year. The mixture of sun and rain brings additional maintenance costs and reduces the efficiency of older roofing materials. We took steps to reduce our maintenance cost and again increase our efficiency by identifying energy saving technologies. |

| We applied GacoFlex roof coatings to each of our facilities. Gaco spray foam and coatings provide seamless insulation and waterproofing, and are fully adhered to the substrate. This eliminated common sources of our leaks and pooling water beneath the roofing material. The specific Gaco product we used was Gaco Western Roof Foam 273. It’s a zero-ozone depleting liquid spray system that cures and coats existing roofing material. The best part is Roof Foam 273 contains material derived from naturally renewable resources and does not contain CFC’s, HCFC’s or other gases harmful to the environment.
